Mini Sessions!

I had so much fun with the mini-sessions for May! They worked out so well and I can't wait to do another day dedicated to these shoots! There were lots of comments on what a great idea it is to have these 15 minute shoots and there were various reasons to why they were so appealing to folks...

I was so happy to shoot a mom and ... her mom!! I just love this photo of the two of them.
This was 'mother-daughter' time ..

This was a great in between milestone shoot for this little guy who I was lucky enough to take newborn photos of ...

And I love how this mom left her sweet kids (I've taken photos of them before and can vouch for their sweetness!) at home and said this is a Mother's Day gift for me!!!

Look again at the blog this week as I'll be posting the next date for mini-sessions!

Finding Your Balance -- a small retreat!

Interested in learning how to naturally gain balance in your body? My sister-in-law, Dawn and great friend since grade 6(!!) Fawna, are putting on a course on 'Finding your Balance'. Both work for Elements of Health in High River and their passion for energy work is incredibly inspiring. In the course you will cover meditations, chakra centers, cord cutting, introduction to energy work and more!

The course is on Saturday, June 7 from 10am - 4pm. I can attest to the beauty of the venue of this course. It is atop the hill overlooking my family's ranch just south of Longview (one hour south of the city) and looks over the Rocky Mountains. It is one of the most incredible views you'll come across and I have been fortunate enough to have grown up with it right in my front yard!

I would be attending this course as well, but I am shooting a wedding that weekend. If you are interested contact Dawn at 558-2363 or Fawna at 558-2236 for more information.

Deadline for registration is Friday, May 30th, so contact them soon if you're interested!

Here's a picture Dawn took recently from atop the hill...

And the Winner Is....

Thank you so much for all the entries for the Mother's Day contest. In honour of all the amazing mothers who are with us here or watching us from another place, I asked for you to write why your mom is so special. It was so fun reading the various notes... memories of getting lost as a little one and the feeling of relief when mom found & comforted her, the comfort of kids getting more and more relaxed with their grandmother they didn't live close to for many years, the devotion of a mother-in-law to her family... there were many great stories. Thank you for taking the time.

I have chosen an entry which really touched me. A full page of memories, the description of this mom clearly showed the love between mother and daughter. And to be honest, reminded me of my own mom as she talked about her mother being a great cook, supporting dreams, hopes and wishes and never missing an event the kids were involved in whether it was a concert, sports event or school play. Shauna also talked about the strength her mom has shown through very challenging times. Her mom survived very risky brain surgery and has never complained or showed fear to her children as she recovered and works through the permanent deafness in one ear that resulted. And I smiled so much as I read Shauna talking about the yummy chocolate cake her mom still bakes for her to take to staff meetings at her school. Mom still made me hamburger soup, banana loaf and chocolate chip cookies to take home all the time. Dad and I just shared the last hamburger soup Mom made the other day.

Shauna ended her note by saying she hopes she can be half the mom her mom is and is she is, she knows her children and husband will also be the happiest people on earth.

Thanks Shauna for your wonderful letter. I can't wait to take photos of you and your mom!! And as I promised, all proceeds from the shoot will go to cancer research.

Thank you everyone!
Janet

Engagement Shoot

I have been scouting out this location in my neighbourhood for a long, long time, so when my wedding clients Soula and Greg mentioned they live in the same area, I immediately jumped on the chance to take their engagement photos here. They were completely in, and I am so glad we ignored the forecast of rain and went for it. Take a look!

They were just so sweet on each other... I loved our time together. Can't wait for the wedding...

Soula was determine to have a shot where she was taller than Greg...

Buddies Since they were Little

I got an email from a young lady asking if I'd be interested in taking photos of her and three of her friends that have been buddies since they were just little, little guys. We were going to go to Fish Creek to get some photos but that was when the snow decided to arrive. As one of them had a 3-week old we decided to do them inside instead. We still had a great time -- it reminded me of my good ol' university days!!

Any one who just wants to grab their buddies and get some cool shots... give me a call! I'd love to do more of these types of shoots!
