Double the Sweetness

Oh my goodness, I fell instantly in love with these two sweethearts the moment they walked through the door. My first ever newborn twin session and we had so much fun!! It was a beautiful day outside so the natural light was just perfect. Thanks Mom and Grandma ... you were so relaxed and so nice to chat with as we captured some gorgeous images of brother and sister.

I love the 'smile' on Alexandra in this one ...

Lovely

I had the pleasure of photographing the most lovely family the other day. I just loved Caitlyn's energy and love for her little brother. She was busy -- even had me jumping around like a frog at one point in the shoot. I included the last photo of the shoot as it just makes me smile so much -- she might have been even more tired than me by the time we were finished!! Liam was just a sweetheart, as easy-going as anything, with a smile to melt your heart.
A lovely morning. Thanks to all four of you. I can't wait to show you all the others!

Calving Season

I had to post this one of Hailey. We were checking out a new baby calf which Hailey was very excited about. Here she is just spending some time looking at the cows who are ready to have their babies soon.

Memories of Japan

Whew! Taxes are pretty much done. That took a while! I'll have to keep a bit more up-to-date this year!! So I was taking a bit of a break between taxes and getting to work on editing photos and I ran across this site. It brought back memories of Japan, where I lived from '95 - '98. The Japanese would often wrap their lunch boxes, shopping items and gifts in a square cloth they called 'furoshiki'. In fact, most of Japanese gift wrapping is absolutely splendid and truly works of art, however this form has the bonus of being environmentally friendly. Jenny Wren Paperie has a product called FUROCHIC (very clever I thought!!) which is taken from that Japanese concept. The material is just gorgeous and as they say on the website "Furochic has a life long after the present has been opened and can be turned into a no-sew handbag, pillow covering, scarf, patchwork quilt or used to re-wrap another gift." AND, a Canadian company to boot!!! Go check it out!

Buy Books and Help Send Kids to School

HYTES, "Helping Youth Through Educational Scholarships" is a non-profit organization that helps send students to school in Guatemala, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. My husband, myself and a group of friends started this organization in 2005 after an inspiring trip to Tanzania where we were able to recognize the huge need and desire for education amongst the youth there.

Through the generousity of donors and volunteers we were able to send 23 kids to school in our first year of operations. In 2008, our third year, we are sending over 150 kids to school that otherwise wouldn't be able to afford this invaluable.

I'd love to share a way you can contribute as well. It's when you purchase books online. Instead of going straight to the Chapters or Amazon websites, go to www.hytes.org/bookstore. There you will see a number of fabulous books that HYTES volunteers recommend for a great read. When you purchase a book (whether highlighted on the site or not) through that site, a certain percentage is given to HYTES. This way you can curl up, enjoy a wonderful book, and know you are helping a youth make a difference for themselves, their family and their community!

On the Ranch With my Nieces

This weekend I went down to the ranch where I grew up. I have been looking forward to taking photos of my nieces down there for a long time. My nieces are so much fun, and beautiful to boot! The shoot went perfectly minus one slight mishap ... me falling off the barrel (you'll see it in the photo of my brother and his wife) while taking photos! Yikes... good thing it was only the lens cap that went into the mud and not my camera! I'll get you the rest this week, guys! Thanks for a very fun shoot!

To Honour Our Wonderful Mothers...

One of the most touching photo shoots I have been a part of was with my sweet friend Carolyn and her sister. They asked me to take photos of themselves with their mom who was nearing the end of her fight with cancer. It was January of last year and Joan passed away the next month. To know how much Carolyn and her sister treasure these photographs means the absolute world to me. This is what we created...

A year has passed since then, and it was on February 2nd of this year that I, and my three siblings, lost our mom to cancer. The memories of Mom are vivid and clear and beautiful, but I wish so much I had that one photo of her and me as an adult that I will treasure forever. I was always on the other side of the camera (!!) and she was one to let the spotlight shine on others.

It is in honour of Mom, and all the other amazing mothers who are still with us or are watching us from another place, that I want to share this contest with you. It's a way to celebrate your relationship and create a special memory between you and your mother, as it is one of the strongest bonds we know.

Write me a note on why your mom is so special. I will be picking the one that touches me the most. The winner will receive a free photo session (it can be with your mom or anyone else who is special to you) and I will be putting all proceeds from the print order towards colon cancer research. I will accept your messages until May 5th and will announce the winner that week. Write me at janet.pliszka@visualhues.com.

I can't wait to hear from you! Please pass this opportunity on to others!

Janet

I'll share a couple of my favourite photos of Mom .... isn't she beautiful?

Sneak Peak

This week could be called "Kids on the Move". This little girl wasn't yet walking but she didn't stay still for more than a half a second at most. Busy busy! Although she was on the go, it was a completely relaxed session and I had great fun just chatting with mom and dad and capturing this sweetheart's personality. Look at those eyes... what a sweetie!

On The Move!!

This little girl was ON THE MOVE during our entire photo shoot! She is 13 months old, recently learned to walk and is taking full advantage of her new-found form of transport. Mom, Dad and I were all very busy following her around whether it was rocking on her fun horse, discovering the CD player, unravelling toilet paper, or playing outside. Thanks for a very fun shoot -- your gallery will be ready soon!
